Is there anything more refreshing than a Red White and Blue Fruit Salad?  As the weather starts to warm up and there are more and more activities being done outside, there is nothing more perfect than a big bowl of natural sweetness to recharge your batteries.  Soon, our calendars will be busy with picnics, weekend parties and the like and instead of bringing the usual fare, why not treat everyone to a dish that’s sweet and tart, cool and refreshing? This Red White and Blue Fruit Salad recipe is the perfect solution!

July 4th is rapidly approaching and here in Florida, it is hot outside!  I don’t mean slightly warm and moderately uncomfortable .. I mean standing on the surface of the sun wouldn’t be as draining as summer in Florida is.  It makes pigging out at BBQs difficult, it’s too hot to eat and too hot to stand outside hovering over a food table.  But bring out a huge bowl of Red White and Blue Fruit Salad straight from the refrigerator?… now we are talking!

HOW DO I MAKE THE LITTLE STARS?

To make the cute cut out stars for your Red White and Blue Fruit Salad, simply purchase a star shaped cookie cutter and when you slice off a piece of apple, use the cookie cutter to cut out a star shape.

HOW DO I MAKE RED WHITE AND BLUE FRUIT SALAD?

Life couldn’t be easier! To make your Red White and Blue Fruit Salad start by combining the blueberries and sliced strawberries in a large mixing bowl.  Peel, core and slice two apples about 1/4 inch thick. Using a small star cut out, make star shapes out of the apple slices. Squeeze the juice of both limes and pour the honey over the fruit and stir well to combine. The lime juice will help your apple stars from turning brown.  Move the bowl the refrigerator and chill until serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 Pints fresh blueberries
  • 2 Pints fresh strawberries quartered and sliced
  • 2 Granny Smith apples peeled, cored and sliced 1/4 inch thickness
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • Star cookie cutter optional
