Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tbl cold butter , cut into cubes
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  • Grease and flour a round cake pan and then set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Whisk the dry ingredients together.
  • Slowly stir in the buttermilk and cut in the butter pieces.
  • Start mixing the dough together with your hands.
  • Once all of the buttermilk has been added, turn your dough out on a floured surface and kneed it together a few times, forming it into a ball.
  • Press the ball into the prepared cake pan and cut an X into the top with a sharp knife, going about 1/4 of an inch deep into the bread.
  • Cover the pan with the other round cake pan, turned upside down.
  • Bake for 30 minutes and then remove the top and bake for another 10 minutes or until the crust has darkened to your liking.
  • Serve immediately.
