Carrabba’s Dipping Oil Bread
Honestly, I couldn’t figure out what to name this recipe so that it made sense! How to convey this is a rustic homemade bread recipe with all of the classic Carrabba’s dipping oil flavors already mixed into the bread in just three words? .. ok, I used four.
This is one of my favorite recipes to date. It’s a super easy no knead bread recipe bursting with those dipping oil flavors that is going to give you a rustic bread crust and a hearty but tender bread inside.
But seriously? The best part is the dipping oil seasonings!!! By adding in all of those fresh herbs and garlic and red pepper flakes, you are infusing so much flavor in a simple bread recipe. Add a drizzle of warm olive oil on a slice and you will feel like you are sitting right in the middle of your favorite Carrabba’s recipe.. without the table service.
Why This Recipe Works
- Anyone else drive across town to their Carrabba’s restaurant just for the bread and the dipping oil? Just me?
- This is one easy and impressive appetizer if you are serving a meal to friends and family.
- Making bread is fun. I can’t explain why .. but it just is.
- Fresh ingredients, minimal work = high rewards and amazing taste.
What Seasonings are in Bread Dipping Oil?
For my take on Carrabba’s dipping oil, I use parsley, basil, garlic, red pepper flake, rosemary, oregano, salt and pepper.
How Do You Make No Knead Bread?
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and yeast.
- Pour in warm water and mix to combine.. you will have a very sticky dough.
- Cover with plastic wrap and move to a warm space for your bread to rise and bubble and double in size .. about 10-12 hours .. (I usually move mine to the laundry room overnight)
- Once your bread dough has doubled in size, it’s time to make the seasonings that are going inside. Add parsley, basil, garlic, red pepper flakes, rosemary, oregano, salt and pepper to a small food processer and pulse until everything is combine and chopped tiny. Move your ‘dipping oil seasonings’ to a small bowl and set aside.
- Using your hands, scrape your bread dough out onto a lightly floured surface. With floured hands, gently start to fold the dough into itself. Gently pull the bread out and fold again into itself.
- As your bread is coming together, being to fold in most of the parmesan cheese and some of your seasoning mix. Stretch and fold and add more of each.. stretch and fold and add more until your parmesan cheese and most of your seasonings are incorporated into your bread. (hold out some of your seasoning mix to add to the top later)
- Using your hands, form your bread into a ball shape and move to a lightly floured bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and allow it to rest for 30 minutes to an hour.
- When you are ready to bake, preheat your oven to 450 degrees with a 4 quart Dutch oven with the lid on the center rack in your oven.
- Move your bread to a large piece of parchment paper and when your oven is ready, gently score the top of the bread with a sharp knife, add the remaining parmesan cheese and bake in a covered Dutch oven for 30 minutes. Remove the top and bake for another 15-20 minutes. You will know your bread is done when it is browned on top and sounds hollow if you tap it.
- Take from oven and let sit in your Dutch oven for 10-15 minutes. Then using the parchment paper edges, remove your bread to a cooling rack.
- Combine olive oil and remaining seasoning mix together and slater on top of your bread. Let your bread cool for 1 hour before slicing.
- When ready to serve, warm up some olive oil in a small bowl (about 1 minute in the microwave) and drizzle over your sliced bread for the full Carrabba’s experience.
Expert Tips
- Make sure you grab fresh yeast before starting this recipe .. nothing is more disappointing that thinking the yeast that has been living in your pantry for years is still good and it’s not.
- This is a pretty forgiving bread recipe so don’t worry.. this is an easy recipe to make so even if you have never made bread before.. jump on in!
- I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t think it needed olive oil. My husband suggested it and I thought it was a wasted idea … trust me, this seasoning dip bread is amazing on it’s own but add that drizzle of warm olive oil to it …….. man! It’s a game changer.
