As you prepare your weekly menu plan, I bet at least one of those dinners on that list is going to be chicken… an average white meat baked chicken recipe with (insert side dish here) and (insert vegetable here). I’m right, aren’t I? Don’t be embarrassed because trust me, we all have that same list. But I don’t want chicken this week… I’ve worked hard all week and I am sure you have too .. so don’t we deserve a dinner with some excitement? … something out of the ordinary? .. something with delicious BOLD flavor to liven up dinnertime?
The right answer to that is YES!!!!! And now what about if I told you that you could have that bold flavor in under 30 minutes AND you only have to dirty up one pot in your kitchen?
Ahhh .. I see I have your attention now.
Don’t get me wrong, chicken is great and one of my personal favorites. But sometimes you just need to break out of the hum-drum (YES, I said it!) cycle of chicken, chicken and more chicken and go wild with some strong, unique flavors that will wake up your week and make dinner fun again.
I type all of this as a reformed baked yard bird addict myself. I’m starting to believe as a society it’s all we ever eat any more. Then I saw something that really made me sit up and take notice. We all know the Jack Link’s Brand for their A-MA-ZING jerky and funny commercials. Now they don’t only make jerky but they also have a line of Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages, as well.
This is a game changer, my friends!!
So I jumped in my car and drove around the corner to my neighborhood Walmart. There is really something to be said for living so close to one. Walmart has just about anything and everything you could imagine and most of the time at a lesser price than their competitors. Plus it’s really nice to be able to go and get everything you need for a recipe in one place. Too many times I have had to run to this store for one ingredient and that store for another ingredient. Walmart carries such a great selection of grocery items that I don’t have to do that anymore. One stop shopping for all your necessary items is the way to go.
So I walk into Walmart and stroll up to the packaged meat section and there it is!!
I was really happy to see their sausages come in a variety of flavors too. My Walmart carries the Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages Original Flavor and the Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages Jalapeno Flavor. Jack Link’s also offers a Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages Cheddar Flavor which sounds incredible too so check your local Walmart to see what flavors they carry. I just couldn’t decide which flavor I wanted … they all sounded SOOOO GOOD .. so I made the executive decision to buy all three.
Now, what to do with them? The Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages Jalapeno Flavor was seriously calling my name so I decided to use that flavor first. There was no way these Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages were going to be tame!! As I was standing there in Walmart, it was a Wednesday night, I needed to get home and get dinner on the table soon and I wanted something robust and exciting to serve my family for a change .. is that really too much to ask for on a busy Wednesday night??
So I ran through some staple ingredients in my head and knew I could put together a quick, easy meal and that these Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages would be perfect in the main role of this amazing twist on the usual low key mid-week dinner. I picked up a few more items like pasta and fresh peppers and ran home to create Wednesday night miracles.
I started by grabbing my trusty skillet and adding to it some olive oil and butter and set my burner to medium heat. I opened the Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages Jalapeno Flavor package and bias cut all of the links and then added them to the skillet.
Then I minced up a couple cloves of garlic, half of each of the peppers and diced half of an onion added them to the pan with the sausage. I cooked everything together for about 4-5 minutes and then I added in the chicken broth, bouillon cube, tomatoes, cream and seasonings. The sausages are already fully cooked so they really make it convenient when it comes to using them. At that point, I increased the heat and brought it all to a boil. Once the liquid was boiling, I added in the pasta.
The pasta cooks in the skillet!!!! Can it get any easier?????
Once the pasta had cooked, I stirred in some shredded cheese. Then I topped the entire dish with more cheese because … um …. I like cheese and that’s just how you do it. After that I got all fancy and sprinkled on some chopped parsley because this amazing dinner came together in under 30 minutes and I only had one pot to clean. Be fancy, break out the garnishes at that point!! Heck, I even threw on some extra peppers on top just because it looked pretty. We’ve got big, bold flavors in this pot… GO CRAZY!!!
Then came the moment… would the big flavor claim live up to the hype??
WOW!!!! That’s all I can say … WOW!!! Do you want to talk about how spicy and BOLD these Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages are???? I’ve had other flavored sausages before, even Jalapeno flavored and have really never thought much about it. UNTIL NOW!!!! The flavor that is packed into this product is out of control! These sausages have a very powerful jalapeno flavor and then I read on the package that they are Gluten Free and there are no artificial flavors or colors used to make them. They are also high in protein and that is never a bad thing.
We are talking Win.. Win.. Win!!
These are the perfect item to build any meal around. Spring and summer are right around the corner and are all about outside entertaining and trips to beaches and lakes. Don’t think you can only use these Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages at home and only for dinner. Bring them with you as you head out to your picnics and beach trips. I promise they will put any hot dog to shame. And oh my goodness, chop these sausages up and add them to your scrambled eggs or breakfast casseroles. There are just so many ways these would be good!!!!
But for now, I am sitting on my couch with my second bowl of Jalapeno Sausage Pasta and I am a very happy girl. Forget about hum-drum Wednesday night baked chicken, do yourself a favor and run to your local Walmart and pick up as many flavors of Jack Link’s Wild Side Sausages as you can find.
Trust me, your mid-week dinners will never be the same. And that’s a good thing!!

One Pot Jalapeno Sausage Pasta Skillet
- 1 tbl butter
- 1 tbl olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic , minced
- 1/2 onion , chopped
- 1/2 red , yellow and green pepper - seeded, cored and diced
- 1 12 oz package Jack Link's Wild Side Sausage Jalapeno Flavor
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 14.5 oz can petite diced tomatoes
- 16 oz uncooked rigatoni , ziti or penne
- 2 cups Monterey Jack cheese , shredded
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- In a large skillet set to medium heat, add in butter and olive oil
- Remove Jack Link's Wild Side Sausage from package and cut into large slices
- Add sausage to the pan and stir
- Add minced garlic, diced peppers and chopped onion to the pan, stir and cook for 4-5 minutes
- Add to the pan chicken broth, cream, tomatoes, seasonings and bouillon cube
- Stir to combine and increase heat to High
- Bring sauce to a boil and pour in uncooked pasta - stir continuously for 1 minute and cover
- Cook pasta based on manufacturers time listed on pasta box
- Once pasta is cooked, remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of shredded cheese.
- Top dish with remaining cheese and let cheese melt
- Garnish with parsley and serve immediately
