WHAT GOES INTO A PHILLY CHEESESTEAK?
A Philly cheesesteak is usually a long roll that is filled with thin sliced rib-eye beef and covered in Cheez Whiz but American and provolone cheeses are common substitutions. Then you add on toppings like fried onions, sautéed mushrooms, ketchup and peppers to your Philly cheesesteak sandwich and enjoy!
WHAT ARE SLOPPY JOES?
According to the dictionary, a Sloppy Joe is a sandwich with a filling of ground beef that has been seasoned with a sauce of tomatoes and spices. Since Sloppy Joe’s are so versatile, they are perfect for combining with a Philly cheesesteak.
HOW DO I MAKE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SLOPPY JOE SLIDERS?
Easy! To start with, set your oven to broil while you are making the sloppy joes. Lay out a 9 x 13 pan and split the potato rolls open. Line the pan with the bottoms of all of the potato rolls and set aside.
Then add ground beef to a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat until meat has browned. Drain grease and set meat aside. Using the same skillet, add butter and then sliced onions and green peppers. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until onions are translucent and peppers are browned a bit. Add meat back into skillet and add in ketchup, Worcestershire, salt and pepper, apple cider vinegar and spices. Mix together cornstarch and beef stock and pour into skillet, stirring to combine.
Next, stir in the Parmesan cheese and then spoon Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the pan of roll bottoms.
Cover with sliced American cheese and cover with tops of the potato rolls. Brush tops of rolls with butter and sprinkle on Parmesan cheese and then broil for 2-3 minutes under oven broiler. Once browned, remove the Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders from oven and enjoy!
GREAT BUT WHAT IF NOT EVERYONE LIKES ONIONS AND PEPPERS ON THEIR PHILLY CHEESESTEAK SLOPPY JOE SLIDERS?
If you not a fan of onions and peppers, leave them out. If your house is like mine and some do and some don’t, simply brown your beef and follow the remaining instructions but brown your onions and peppers in a separate skillet. Then after you add your Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe mixture to the rolls, you can spoon on the onions and peppers on however many sliders you want to before adding the cheese. Then bake as instructed and your entire household will be happy.
Enjoy! ~ Heather
