Brie Appetizer with Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce
Brie Appetizer with Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce is the ultimate quick, easy and delicious baked brie cheese appetizer to add to any party, game day or holiday gathering.
If there is one food that speaks to my soul, it has to be cheese. Soft cheese, hard cheese, stinky cheese, brie cheese .. it doesn’t even matter. I am a cheese addict and I fully admit that I have a problem. But even though there are thousands of cheese choices in this world, one of my favorites to this day has to be baked brie. That being said, hang on tight because we are getting down and dirty with it and adding to the baked brie appetizer greatness!! I am talking about adding Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce to the party and trust me, it’s amazing!!
IS BRIE CHEESE?
Definitely, brie is cheese! Brie is a soft cow’s milk cheese and is named after the French region where it originated from. Brie cheese is a pale yellow soft cheese that is mild in flavor and melts beautifully.
WHAT IS THE SKIN ON BRIE?
The white skin on brie cheese is from the processing of the cheese. It is completely edible and safe to eat. Quite simply, it is the hardened dried out outside layer of cheese that has grown a friendly mould on the outside. Some people find the rind to be appealing, others not so much. When making a baked brie appetizer, I prefer to leave the rind on because it contains the brie nicely instead of it melting into a big pool of cheese on a plate and then the guests can decide if they want to eat the rind or not.
HOW DO I MAKE A BRIE APPETIZER WITH BOURBON SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE?
There is the question of the day!! Making a Brie Appetizer with Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce couldn’t be easier and this salted caramel sauce can be used on so many different things like ice cream and apple pies and monkey bread and the list goes on and on… Start by making your bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce. In a small saucepan over medium high heat, add sugar and stir until sugar is melted. It may clump, just keep whisking and cook until it turns a light amber color. Once the sugar is melted, add in butter and whisk until melted. Stir in the bourbon. Remove from heat and add in cream and salt and whisk to incorporate. Set aside. Once cooled, you can pour your Bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce into air-tight container and store in the refrigerator. Next, make your baked Brie Appetizer. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat oven to 325 degrees. Remove the brie cheese from it’s wrapping and place on baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes. While the brie is baking, heat a small skillet over medium high heat. Add walnuts and stirring constantly, cook until they look a shade darker and they smell toasty (just a few minutes). Remove baked brie appetizer from oven and transfer to a serving platter. Add cut apple slices to the platter and drizzle that amazing bourbon Salted Caramel Sauce over the brie appetizer and top with the toasted walnuts
