Roasted Radishes are a delicious alternative to potatoes if you are following a low-carb or keto diet. Made with bacon, green onions and feta cheese, these pan roasted sauteed radishes will be a favorite among your keto side dishes!
Like so many of us, I am trying to calm the Carb Monster down in my life. My new favorite roasted radishes recipe is helping in my fight to tame the beast.
Don’t get me wrong .. I love (L-O-V-E) carbs #potatoesarelife but unfortunately they love me back. Aggressively.
So in an effort to try something new and maybe a bit healthier, I am trying to incorporate more low-carb meals and keto side dishes into my daily / weekly recipe rotation.
It’s a work in progress.
low-carb alternatives
Of course, replacing foods heavy with carbs means taking a break from the foods we love and #1 on that list is potatoes…. tender, beautiful, starchy, carby potatoes …
and while some people may not find breaking up with potatoes too difficult, THIS house is a meat and potatoes kind of household so making that switch is pretty dramatic.
But just like replacing the potatoes with cauliflower in my Loaded Cauliflower Casserole, replacing radishes instead of potatoes is the next best thing.
So I grabbed my favorite potato side dish recipe of Skillet Red Potatoes and I moved forward with making this delicious keto side dish.
Radishes are not an exact cloned twin of a potato but maybe like a second cousin… a second cousin covered in bacon, green onion and creamy feta cheese.
Yup, I just found a delicious alternative to potatoes and my now new favorite low-carb side dish with these Roasted Radishes.

pro tips for perfect pan cooked radishes
- I have found that purchasing your radishes from a local farmers market usually gifts you with larger radishes. The radishes often time found in the supermarkets are substantially smaller in size.
- Be sure to allow your radishes to cook all the way to fork tender. The longer they cook, the more their ‘radish taste’ mellows out and the more they compare to potatoes.
- Keep in mind… these Roasted Radishes are NOT potatoes. If you go into this dish expecting miracles, you won’t be disappointed but even a modern miracle of the highest degree won’t change a radish into a red potato 🙂
- I use the pre-cooked bacon piece packets found in the salad dressing aisle of my supermarket. They take the work and mess out of adding bacon to a recipe. However, feel free to use 6 slices of cooked bacon if you would like to substitute.
do radishes taste like potatoes?
Short answer to this question is No. However, roasting radishes in the oven or in a skillet calms that peppery radish taste down and produces a tender, tasty potato alternative.
If you are missing potatoes in your low-carb meals, Roasted Radishes are a great low-carb substitution.
are radishes low in carbs?
Radishes are a great alternative to potatoes when you are following a low-carb lifestyle or a keto diet.
Radishes are an exception to the “no root vegetable” rule as they have none of the starch that makes root vegetables (such as potatoes) high in carbohydrates.
Plus an entire cup of radishes is only 4 carbs!!
