Ground Turkey Shepherd’s Pie
This Ground Turkey Shepherd’s Pie recipe is my family’s go-to dinner when we are hungry and short on time but want ALL the flavor.
Now, Shepherd’s Pie is a classic comfort food dish that can be served up different ways with different ingredients. That what makes it a very unique and family friendly dish.
You can make it as complex and authentic (think lamb) as you like, you can make an Irish Shepherd’s Pie, a British Shepherd’s Pie, Cottage Pie, then you have the Americanized versions.. you get my drift… there are a lot of different ways to enjoy this dish.
But THIS Shepherd’s Pie made with ground turkey and helped along with grocery convenience items it the one I make the most. It’s not authentic, it’s not homemade from the ground up but it IS super tasty and a great 30 minute dinner idea when you have had a busy day and want some comfort food.
An Easy Shepherd’s Pie Recipe
- There is nothing fancy or pretentious about this recipe. We aren’t growing our own vegetables or making a roux from scratch.
- This is an easy casserole dish made with convenience ingredients and frozen veggies. Great taste and fast cooking. No apologies!
- Technically this leans more towards a Cottage Pie vs a Shepherd’s Pie but we seem to lump it all together under the latter name. Any way you call it, it’s delicious.

Pro Tips for Perfect Shepherd’s Pie
- Not a fan of ground turkey? Swap this out for ground beef instead.
- Want to add diced carrots? Go for it! Don’t like peas? Leave them out! Make this YOUR own.
- I grab the tubs of pre-made mashed potatoes like Simply Potatoes or Bob Evans. They are cooked mashed potatoes you just need to microwave. If this is not your ideal way, three Russet potatoes would be all you need to substitute the pre-made potatoes. Just cut them, boil them and mash them with some butter.
