pro tips for perfect burrito bowls

  • Using a mix of chicken breasts and chicken thighs guarantees flavorful and tender chicken burrito bowls.
  • Crock pot burrito bowls can be made with pork, chicken, beef or even vegetarian.
  • Add or replace ingredients to your liking for your families perfect burrito bowl experience.
  • These slow cooker chicken and rice burritos reheat beautifully and are perfect for quick lunches and meal prep solutions.
  • Be sure to check the seasonings of your burrito bowls before ringing the dinner bell .. I usually find myself adding another 1/2 teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of cayenne to the slow cooker and stirring it in before serving but that is just to my taste.

are slow cooker burritos spice?

In my opinion, this chicken and rice burrito bowl is not too spicy.

It does have quite a bit of chili pepper in the seasoning but this recipe makes such a large amount, the you really don’t get any heat when the Slow Cooker Burrito Bowl is done cooking.

As a matter of fact, I usually add a bit more cayenne to the bowl when it is done.

Definitely go light with the spices if your family prefers their dishes mild.

Slow Cooker Burrito Bowl seasoning

do you need to use rice for these chicken burritos?

Not at all.  You can swap the rice out for a variety of other choices with these slow cooker chicken burritos or omit it all together.

You could also use brown rice, quinoa or even barley or couscous.

I have not tried this burrito bowl using any of those substitutions but the cooking time should be close to the same, just keep you eye on it so that it doesn’t over cook.

can you freeze burrito bowls?

Yes!! To freeze your chicken burrito bowls, let cool completely and move your burrito bowls to a large zip top bag or freezer friendly container.

To reheat, let thaw in the refrigerator and heat over low on the stove top. You can also microwave for a few minutes or return to the slow cooker for a couple of hours on Low.

Add a bit of chicken stock to ensure it won’t dry out.

Looks delicious! I understand your work lunchtime temptation completely! For my job I go from house to house visiting patients and it’s “oh, look! There a Chickfila, and Chipotle, and Starbucks”… usually I only cave into the Starbucks though. A working girl needs her caffeine!
